Questions

Do I need to download an app?

No. The game runs in your phone browser (Safari or Chrome). The browser asks once for location access, and you need to allow it.

How does the game know I am there?

While the game page is open, the phone checks GPS every few seconds. When you are near a checkpoint, the task opens by itself. If the signal between the old houses is weak, tap “I am here”.

Can I play with kids?

Yes. The route follows pavements and parks, and the questions are about places you see around you. It works with a pram too.

What if it is cold?

You do not have to finish in one evening: your progress is saved for all four days. There are plenty of cafés on the way to warm up.

How do I save battery?

Charge your phone before you start, keep it in an inside pocket in the cold and bring a power bank. GPS and an open screen use more battery than usual.

Is this part of the official Staro Rīga programme?

No. This orienteering game is run by Atklāj and is not affiliated with the festival organisers. We simply invite you to explore the city on the same evenings. The festival programme is at staroriga.lv.
